Η επίλυση προβλήματος επιτυγχάνεται με τη μέθοδο με την οποία ενεργούν οι μηχανικοί (engineering), σπάζοντας το πρόβλημα σε μικρότερα μέρη: (Ask→ Imagine→ Plan→ Create→Improve→Ask) Τα παιδιά ασκούνται στην ομαδική εργασία,στην κριτική σκέψη, στην επικοινωνία με την ομάδα για την επίτευξη του κοινού στόχου και μαθαίνουν να εκφράζουν τη διαδικασία της σκέψης τους με νέους τρόπους. Οι δραστηριότητες engineering, που αφορούν τα πιο μικρά παιδιά, εξάπτουν την φυσική περιέργεια της ηλικίας αυτής, αναπτύσσουν δεξιότητες κοινωνικές, γλωσσικές, φυσικές, αλλά παράλληλα ξεκλειδώνουν και τη δημιουργικότητα των παιδιών, με τρόπο ευχάριστο και διασκεδαστικό. Μαθαίνουν να παρατηρούν, να αναρωτιούνται, να φαντάζονται και να δημιουργούν  όπως και να αναγνωρίζουν, πως ακόμη και η αποτυχία  και το λάθος, είναι απαραίτητα στοιχεία της επιτυχίας. Για τα πιο μεγάλα παιδιά οι κατασκευές είναι πιο σύνθετες και απαιτητικές. Οι απλές μηχανές (γρανάζια, μοχλοί, τροχαλίες κ.ά.) και οι μηχανισμοί (σύνθετες μηχανές), είναι γνώσεις, που συμπληρώνουν το εκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα του σχολείου και δημιουργούν συσχετισμούς, για το πως λειτουργούν οι μηχανές στον πραγματικό κόσμο.
