Project by STEM: STEM Roots

Engineering & Coding

“STEM Roots” is an innovative STEM program that bridges the educational process with practical applications in everyday life, focusing on sustainable agricultural practices. Through the construction of hydroponic systems and hands-on automation activities, students not only learn about hydroponics technology, but also about its direct application to water conservation and efficient resource management.

By analysing and measuring the physical variables that affect plant growth, they understand the importance of optimal resource utilisation and the direct link between environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity and light and our daily nutrition.

The program reinforces practical skills in the construction and maintenance of a hydroponic greenhouse, the use of IoT technology for real-time monitoring and the application of electronic systems for automated plant care, emphasizing the daily application of these skills for optimal resource utilization and energy conservation.

Through these activities, students gain a deep understanding of sustainable agriculture, the integration of technology in agriculture, and the broader implications of environmental stewardship in our daily lives, focusing on the direct link between the educational process and practical applications for resource conservation and environmental protection.

STEM Roots seeks to deepen students’ understanding of the physical quantities taught in school and how they affect living organisms.

Objectives of the program

Practical application and sustainable resource management: students will gain practical knowledge about hydroponic systems and their benefits for sustainable food production, learning how to apply this knowledge in everyday life to save water and manage resources efficiently.

Data Analysis and Technology for Everyday Life: They will develop skills in collecting and analyzing environmental data using IoT technologies, understanding how these skills can be used to improve the quality of life and protect the environment in their daily lives.

Understanding Climate Impacts and Sustainable Farming: they will learn to assess the impact of climate variables on crop growth and agriculture, realizing the importance of sustainable farming and climate change adaptation in their daily lives.
