The 2020 STEM Discovery Campaign is a joint international initiative organized by Scientix that invites projects, organisations, libraries, schools, universities and youth clubs across Europe and around the world, to celebrate careers and studies in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The tagline for this year’s campaign is “Innovative Trends in Education”. The main goal of the STEM Discovery Campaign, is to showcase the magnitude of the efforts teachers and other people interested in STEM education make during the academic year while using learning resources and engaging their students in educational activities promoting STEM.

Robotics is a wonderful platform for learning 21st century skills. Solving robotic challenges encourages innovation and develops creativity and problem solving skills in students. Because robotics crosses multiple curricular subjects, students must learn and apply their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, math, and computer programming.
The most rewarding part of designing robots is that students have fun. They work together as a team, discovering their own solutions. Coaches guide them along the way, then step back to allow them their own victories and losses. Students thrive in this supportive and immersive environment, and learning occurs as naturally as breathing air.
At the end of the day, at the end of a fair competition, students can say they did their best, they learned, and they had fun.
Our solar system is threatened by asteroids of unknown origin, and Yoda is called upon to find a solution. Will it be able to direct them towards the black holes and save all known civilizations from extinction?
Our robot, beginning from the start area, has to move the asteroids from their bases and place them in the selected black holes. Finally, it must srrive to the finish area, after having completed its mission of saving the universe!
The teams of participants are formed by high school students and their coach who are called to build and program a robot using SPIKE Prime, that would solve the challenge of the competition.
Each try awards the team with points, according to the parts of the challenge they have completed successfully at the end of their run. In the end the team with the most points wins the competition!
