Science in Lower Elementary School aims to familiarize students with the natural world that surrounds us. This is exactly what the present program aims at, through science workshops, thar are an introduction to the laws of Physics. Thus, the young students participate actively in the Science lab, making original constructions with the TechCards, taking them home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among others, they will understand the different properties of materials, study concepts like weight, friction, speed and length, experiment with magnetic forces, light and sound and create their first electrical circuits.<\/span><\/p>\n

All activities are designed for young children, and are inquiry-based, meaning students follow instructions and try to find answers to the given problem. As students become more experienced, instructions are reduced and students design their own research, working like scientists.<\/span><\/p>\n

The program is designed in the structure of modern Science curricula, where, in addition to the body of knowledge, students do practice in the lab and learn how science works. At the same time, soft skills are cultivated, such as creativity, critical thinking and problem solving.<\/span><\/p>\n

Objectives of the program<\/b><\/p>\n

By the end of the program, students will be able to:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Describe science concepts, like weight, friction, speed, length, qualitatively,<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Recognize how an electrical circuit works, and mention the results of electric current,<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Use mathematical concepts to create patterns, and do measurements in order to complete their constructions,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Design the solution of a problem, developing their critical thinking skills,<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Experiment with given objects, and invent solutions,<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Present their results to their peers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
