Dive into the World of Control Technology: Control-it!

Control-it! is an action-packed, experiential program for elementary school students that takes them on an exciting journey into the fascinating world of control technology through the construction of various types of switches and electrical circuits!

The program introduces simple control technology in the form of different types of switches integrated into a smart set of models. A key element of the projects is that students actually build the switches from basic components, revealing how and why they work. The control switches range from simple push switches, tilt switches, and magnetic switches to the construction of a toggle switch. Instructions for the more advanced models are designed so they can be built with or without the more complex switch mechanisms. This allows for significant opportunities for development and modification of the presented models and components.

Imagine a program that transforms children into little engineers and scientists!

Through the construction of 9 different models, children engage with fundamental concepts of engineering and physics. Each model represents a unique adventure, filled with fun and learning.

Program Objectives

Understanding Fundamental Principles

Familiarization with Switches: Children learn about various types of switches, such as push switches and magnetic switches, and discover how they function.
Exploration of Electrical Circuits: Students understand the basic principles of current flow, voltage, and resistance, and learn to create simple circuits to control their switches and constructions.
Introduction to Motion Transmission Systems: They learn how gears, pulleys, motors, and other systems operate to transfer motion to mechanisms.

Skill Development

STEM Skills: The program enhances children’s knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, cultivating essential skills for the 21st century.
Problem-Solving: As children face challenges during construction, they develop critical thinking and creative solution-finding skills.
Teamwork: By collaborating with their classmates, they learn to communicate effectively and build teamwork skills.
Critical Thinking: They develop the ability to analyze, evaluate, and make informed decisions.
Curiosity: Children enthusiastically explore, ask questions, and seek answers.
Interest in Science and Technology: Control-it! plants the seed for future studies and careers in these exciting fields.
Creativity and Self-Expression: Children have the freedom to create anything they can imagine, expressing their creativity and feeling proud of their constructions.
